It is worth noting that Pidgeons is Cardiff's only wholly family owned independent funeral company, being wholly owned by the Pidgeon family since its foundation in 1920.
Pidgeons is run by a local family and employs staff who are all resident in the local community.
Our dedicated staff have over 300 years' experience in the funeral profession, and it shows.
The company was established in Grangetown by James Pidgeon in 1920, initially as a private car hire firm, during which period they conveyed many celebrities of the times, including King George V (who gave a 10 shilling tip to his driver who happened to be James Pidgeon). Other customers included the American newspaper magnate, William Randolph Hurst, who owned St Donat's Castle, and Joseph Kennedy, father of President John F Kennedy. Pidgeons also supplied cars for wedding hire and charabangs (large open coach-type vehicles) for works outings, Whitsun treats etc..
Pidgeons owned the first motor hearse in Cardiff, which was hired out to undertaking businesses. It was decided by the family at that time that under- taking would be a natural extension to the hire business and during the early 30s Pidgeons conducted their first funeral service.
The dedicated staff at Pidgeons have between them over 280 years' experience in the funeral profession, serving the needs of the bereaved. It is important that the bereaved receive the service of their choice - we will do our utmost to supply the service that you desire. We are here to help and your needs are important to us.
If you plan a funeral with Pidgeons ensure that you arrange beforehand whether you want to follow the coffin into the chapel or have the coffin come afterwards. We were asked when people were already sitting down. Make sure that the family can enter first and that the front rows are reserved for family, when we entered others were sitting in family seats. Check your invoice before paying, we were charged for limos which we'd cancelled. Tell them if you want service sheets and a press notice, we weren't asked. They were respectful and prompt however.

I would like to express my thanks to you and your staff for all the help that you gave to my family and myself recently, before, during, and after my father's funeral. Yourself and your staff were dignified and courteous at all times. Thank you for helping us all through a very difficult time.

I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to you and your staff, for all your care and sympatheticness shown to myself and my family during our sad loss. We were put at ease by your homely relaxing welcome and I knew then, that when our dad was to arrive there, that he was going to be looked after as if one of your own and could not have been in nicer surroundings.
