We used to spend our lunch break here every so often when we fancied a cheap lunch without walking too far into town. They do a meal deal which if memory serves me is a meal off a specific menu and a drink (pint, glas of house wine, soft drink) for a fiver. The food was fine- more canteen than haute cuisine- however for a fiver with a drink thrown in I can't really complain. The menu consited of old favorites like spag bol, chilli, jacket spud, chicken tikka massala. I always find it very dark in there, however the food has always arrived quickly for us meaning that you can fit it into your lunch hour. This review of lunch time is not as useful as it used to be, as in the last few weeks, Cuba have changed their opening hours so that the only lunchtime they are currently open is friday- whereas it used to be every day.

With good offers on many dishes with a drink for under a fiver Cuba should be a great place for workers in Cardiff to grab a tasty and cheap lunch, especially as there is outside seating for those rare sunnier days. However the few times I have been there this has not been the case. The service of food was so slow we had already waited for a good twenty minutes before the waitress told us there were no burger buns available, therefore we had to wait even longer to get the revised meals. It was also noted that the table next to us were not told about this for another ten minutes after we were. Although we did get our food in the end the table next to us gave up entirely and had to leave. This makes it no good for a quick lunch if you don’t have time to spare. I have also been in the evening thinking that it would again be a quick meal. When we arrived all the menus and condiments were on the tables but when we came to order we were told they were no longer serving food and would in fact be closing at half eight. The music was then turned off as a not to subtle hint that they wanted the few people in the place to leave. Overall I would give it a miss although I hear it is good as a drink stop on a big night out.
